Richard Shock
Richard started late as a Woodturner having pursued an earlier career as a Chemical Engineer, following his PhD.
In his workshop, which is a shed devoted to turning, at the bottom of his garden in Oxford, he makes mostly functional pieces, by turning on a lathe. His raw material is usually British native woods, but occasionally he uses imported tropical hardwoods where he can be sure of their sustainable provenance. Many of his pieces, especially his signature inlaid platters, show his passion for mixed timbers.
Richard was accepted as a Registered Professional Turner, and as a member of both the Oxfordshire Craft Guild, and the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
