James Burnett Stuart
James's pots, as tactile as they are visual, are made to hold. Deceptively simple tableware is altered to create inviting, softened forms, scolloped and textured, they recall the ceramics of Japan.
Lustrous, glazes reveal glimpses of slip coated red earthenware, reminiscent of traditional pottery from Southern France. A subtle palette reflects the colours of the countryside surrounding his Herefordshire studio. Together these influences combine seamlessly in his uniquely distinctive work.
James has exhibited extensively in England and Wales, including selection by the Crafts Council for showings at Chelsea Craft Fair, a lengthy association including Artist in Residence at Charleston Farmhouse, and a solo show at the Scottish Gallery.
